BOOK DISTRIBUTORS AND WHOLESALERS

The following information is adapted from Dan Poynter's "Instant Report" on Book Distributors, available as a separate publication at ParaPublishing.com.

It has been placed at this Web location for the convenience of our readers and is updated periodically to keep you up-to-date long after our book goes to press. Please keep this location private, for the exclusive use of our readers.

Feel free to e-mail newsdesk@u-publish.com with any corrections or additions, and we will make the necessary changes.

Poynter and Snow believe that nearly any quality book with a clearly identifiable audience can be successfully self-published through "non-traditional" channels, other than bookstores and libraries. However, for those who want to pursue more traditional markets, you will probably need a wholesale distributor.

At most of our online resources, we provide links to Web sites. In this case, however, we recommend starting with a phone call, to get a more intimate feel for each company. Play dumb, and ask the same questions of several companies. Their answers may help you make a better choice.

We asked wholesalers and distributors what kind of books they want and do not want, to help you get started in the right direction. The results follow.

Important: While extensive, the list below can be expanded. Additional wholesalers and distributors can be found in Literary Marketplace, available at most libraries.

For more detail about the differences between distributors and wholesalers, and tips about how to pick the best one for you, please read our book. Keeping the book handy as you review the listings here can improve your results!
