Authors and publishers who followed the March 14 release
of Stephen King's electronic-only bestseller "Riding the
Bullet" and subsequent controversy over pirated copies
that appeared worldwide within hours, will want to review
the latest info from EBN.
The upcoming release of ContentGuard from Microsoft and
Xerox could help restore industry confidence in the security of
electronic books, once it becomes widely available.
Meanwhile, authors are publishers should carefully consider
the electronic distribution of their work. Remember that the
availability of software to protect the copyrights of authors
and publishers does not in itself make eBooks secure. The
software must be USED, and it must WORK. Do not allow your
book to be distributed electronically, unless your copyright
is adequately protected.
Today, the landscape of the publishing industry is transforming
rapidly. Changes occur almost daily. Many new developments
have already arisen in the few months since the first edition
of "U-Pub" was released. As noted in the book, the authors
do not endorse specific products or services -- even those used
to distribute the book itself. It is important for today's
writers to keep up with the latest developments, in order to
take advantage of the best methods for publishing books.
Watch for the second edition of "U-Publish.com," due out in
July 2000 from
Unlimited Publishing. Meanwhile, don't forget to visit
the "U-Publish.com" website at least once a month, for the
latest news of interest to authors and publishers.
