How to Contact Printers

The following list of digital and short run printers is provided for the convenience of readers of the book titled U-Publish.com by Dan Poynter and Danny O. Snow. Please keep this location private, for the exclusive use of our readers.

Before you contact printers, please read our book to learn the right questions to ask, and other important factors that may influence the one you choose. For example, did you know that freight is a surprisingly big part of your total cost? For this reason, be sure to include shipping as part of your RFQ or "Request for Quote." For more tips, see our book.

If you plan to start with fewer than 100 copies, you will want to use a "Print-on-Demand" company. We use Createspace.com, Lulu.com, LightningSource, and Replica Books for micro runs of 100 copies or less. Other POD companies can be found online. Just Google "POD Printing" to find more.

As a (very) general rule, you can expect to pay about $3 to $5 for a 100 page paperback. Again: be sure to factor in shipping and handling charges when comparing printers. Also weigh set-up charges (if any) in total price.

To follow the promotional plan in our book you'll probably need 100 to 500 copies for book reviewers, VIPs and readers who place advance orders before public release. The printers below usually print 100 or more books at a time.

Do NOT print more than 500 copies before you have objective, real-life proof that there's a market for your book. Start small; remember, if you sell out, you can always order more next time.

The list below includes only a brief selection of printers whose work has been favorably reviewed by our readers in the past. Many more can be found at Printellectual.com or with a simple Google search for "Book Printing."

Please feel free to e-mail newsdesk@u-publish.com with any corrections or additions to the list below, which is updated periodically to help keep our book up-to-date for years to come.

As always, we remind you that it pays to compare and hope you find this a helpful starting point in forming your own independent publishing plans.
