BORDERS ANNOUNCES MAJOR NEWS FOR READERS - AND WRITERS:
BORDERS PERSONAL PUBLISHING, POWERED BY LULU

Danny O. Snow at the Borders Personal Publishing Launch, Photo by Dylan Barrell Valentine's Day 2008: Borders announced that it will woo tech-savvy book lovers with new "concept stores" that highlight digital and Internet features -- including a bold program that allows authors to publish books under a new "Borders Personal Publishing, Powered by Lulu" imprint.

You can now publish your book at Borders at a cost of $49 to $499, depending on the options you choose. Or you can "Do It Yourself" at little or no cost.

Like other book publication services, Borders provides optional editorial support, book design services, printing, e-commerce, and other features, bundled or a la carte, for a fee.

But the important difference is that Borders will make qualified BPP books available for your readers to order online or at any of its hundreds of stores, even if it's not stocked on the shelves.

Books that meet editorial and design standards (an editorial evaluation is $299 a la carte, included in the $499 premium package) will also be offered in-store programs. For more details, please click the link below:

Commentary from Poynter & Snow:

In the same way that books from major publishers are selected, in-store stocking of BPP books will depend on a number of factors. These include not only editorial evaluation, but also local store participation, available shelf space at participating stores, etc.

The BPP in-store programs will also be a microcosm of the way big publishers secure shelf space in scores of stores for their most promising titles. Authors of BPP books who sign up for in-store programs can get started in a single store, expanding to additional stores after their books show proven public demand.

By using the strength of its worldwide chain of bookstores, Borders is offering writers the potential of getting their work featured on the shelves of real bookstores -- a very attractive feature, compared to services that only make books available to order online.

Many writers may also find it more respectable to publish their books under the imprint of Borders, compared with other companies that sell services to authors, but lack the reputation of Borders for quality, service and selection.

Disclosure:

A new edition of "U-Publish" by Dan Poynter and Danny O. Snow is the first book to be released under this new Borders Personal Publishing program. It is included as a bonus with the $299 and $499 packages, to give BPP authors a head start in the exciting business of independent book publishing.

Our book shows why you don't need to wait years, chasing a conventional publisher. Instead, prove your book's appeal as a successful self-publisher... and let publishers chase you, whether you publish with Borders, another service, or entirely on your own.

Summary:

This major re-entry into the booming market of services for self-publishing authors by Borders is important news in the book world. Please stay tuned: Poynter and Snow will soon be making live appearances at Borders stores in several cities as part of the launch, dates and locations to be announced. We look forward to seeing you there!
